From the development stage to advising you on the choice of raw materials, and from individual production steps to the finishing process and quality control: thanks to our great experience and exact production methods, our workflow is streamlined and time-optimised.

Kyburz Sapphire’s optical components are created in a seamless process, adapted to the respective customer’s needs. From the specification of the parts to the selection of the raw material, process design and prototype production to industrialisation and series production, we advise our customers comprehensively and personally.

The finishing of the parts and quality control according to ISO standards are also integrated into the overall process. Short internal decision-making paths and our many years of experience also enable more complex manufacturing processes. The streamlined workflow ensures maximum flexibility and efficient time management.

1. ENGINEERING
Our development and consulting team supports our customers right from the start of a project. This includes the choice of materials, the definition of machining processes and the provision of special tools. We guarantee the suitability of a prototype for series production and document all work steps necessary for series production in a traceable manner.

2. LASER CUTTING
The laser cutting process is convincing thanks to its high precision, short throughput times, good scalability and flexibility. Even with small workpieces and fine geometries, the laser cutting process is superior to conventional technologies.

3. SHAPE GRINDING
With automated 5-axis grinding centres, we bring complex workpieces precisely into the desired shape. Thanks to many years of experience and state-of-the-art CAD-CAM systems, the development phases can be kept comparatively short.

4. POLISHING
We use a variety of different polishing processes to produce flat, spherical, conical or cylindrical surfaces to ISO10110 optical standards. Specifically, this involves compliance with shape tolerances in the nanometre range as well as high cleanliness standards.

5. FINISHING
In the area of coating or finishing, we have a network of qualified partners. In addition to specific anti-reflective coatings or mirror coatings, a wide range of functional enhancements such as conductive, hydrophobic or antistatic properties are possible. Solderable metal coatings or cementing solutions extend the range.

6. QUALITY TESTING
For the qualification of our workpieces, we have extensive facilities for optical and tactile measuring equipment. The inspection processes are completed with a thorough visual inspection of each individual part.

Prototyping

From Prototyping
to serial production

First we cut the crystals into blanks. For this, we use various slicing machines which cut the parts according to the size, number of pieces and crystal adjustment.

We know almost no limits when it comes to geometrical shapes. Using efficient CNC-processing technologies and modern 5-axis grinding centres, we can even turn complex work pieces into the desired form. We can utilise our comprehensive spectrum of tools to fulfil express orders. Thanks to our many years of experience in tool design using CAD/CAM applications, we can keep the development phase for client-specific tools relatively short.

Our multitude of different polishing processes means we can produce level, spherical, tapered or cylindrical surfaces that can afterwards be certified according to ISO 10110 optical standards.

For years now, we have built up reliable partnerships for optical coatings. Besides anti-reflex coatings for optimum transmission in the visible range we have also taken on special requirements. Autoclavable, broadband anti-reflex coatings and robust, hard anti-reflex coatings are just as realisable as electrically conductive ITO coatings and mirror coatings. Other finishing processes include different metal layers for soft and hard solderings. An attention to detail is also decisive for precise gluing between the sapphire and its mounting.
